Dear friend,
Today I want to share with you a small strategy I use to keep my passion alive for music production.
Like you, I’m not always inspired, and sometimes my desire to make music or my motivation can drop to incredibly low levels.
Taking breaks is fine, but sometimes they last longer than expected, making it hard to get back into the groove.
But we know that we need to get back on track.
If you’re reading this email, it means, like me, you have a deep passion for music. So, one way or another, we have to pull ourselves out of these creative down times.
My tip? Try a new style.
You know that music you listen to but never produce because it’s not your usual genre, or because it doesn’t align with your artistic project? Well, this is the perfect time to dive into it.
For me, it means stepping away from house music and the 124-128 bpm range, and trying something more chill: lo-fi beats, vlog music, ambient… something different.
That’s what I did in my latest YouTube video, where I produced a breakbeat track with slower bpm, around 117 bpm.
I had a great time.
In moments like these, I rediscover my enthusiasm and even think about starting new projects, perhaps under a different alias, to fully express myself.
Of course, if you want to improve in one genre, focusing on it is key. But sometimes, stepping out of your comfort zone just for fun can teach you new things you can apply to your main project.
